Recently, the 2020 Macao Science and Technology Award ceremony was held in Macao Cultural Center. Xin LIU, the first doctoral student jointly trained by SUSTech and the University of Macau, won the “Science and Technology Award – Scientific and Technological R&D Award for Postgraduates,” which is the first time that the student of SUSTech has won the overseas science and technology award.
Macao Science and Technology Award- Scientific and Technological R&D Award for Postgraduates is an outstanding award set up by the government of Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in recognition of Macao university graduates who have achieved excellent research results. It is selected once every two years. The award is a full affirmation of Xin LIU’s scientific research achievements during his study at the University of Macau and SUSTech. It is also an embodiment of the two universities’ academic exchanges and cooperation and postgraduate training achievements.
Xin LIU started his doctoral study at the SUSTech and the University of Macau joint program in August 2015. In July 2019, he passed the graduation defense and obtained the doctor’s degree. During his three-year study at SUSTech, under the guidance of Professor Chuangchuang LI of Chemistry, he has carried out the synthesis of more than ten complex natural products and published ten SCI high-level papers (as the first author of eight out of ten articles) in journals like Accounts of Chemical Research, J. Am.??Chem. Soc., Chem., and Chem. Sci. During his doctorate period, Xin LIU was awarded many honored titles like the outstanding doctoral graduates of SUSTech.
